Film Poster Design:
Ideas:

Initial ideas:

Originally  i was meant to produce a poster on the terminator franchise based on the television program'the Sarah: Conner Chronicles.' However because the film is coming out next year with a different women playing her role and different story-line. I though it best i tried a different film or franchise

in the end i chose to do Friday the 13th because i saw some original films and the more recent ones. Moreover Horror movies are constantly being recycled and adapted to fit the times. Which made my idea easier to pursue.

Research:

Friday the 13th: Basic outline

A title:

The title of the film poster is 'Friday the 13th' which will be a reboot of the original and modern day franchises including 'Freddie vs Jason' and 'Nightmare on Elms Street'.

A byline:

'Jason's back with vengeance'

The main image:

Jason or Jason's mask will be at the forefront because he is the stock character in the film

A quote:

"A truly horrifying film"- Dailymail

The process:

Image:

These were the images i chose to use for my poster. The image at the forefront was of the mask because it is the identity of the character. rarely is he seen without it because he is disfigured. The mask is also immediately recognizable similarly to the scream film franchise mask, which is why i decided to use it. However there i wish that i used another image either a still from the film or a person wearing the mask because of the eyes. The use of the mask alone doesn't give the sense of realism that i wanted. I also used the image of the Machete which is Jason's weapon this was important because rarely to is the character seen without it in films. The machete also provokes fear which relates to the genre. The hand print picture was also cropped out using the using the selection tool. I chose this image because it signifies fear ,terror to the audience but also most significantly gore, violence and bloodshed because it is a graphic horror movie. Therefore it was important not to misrepresent it because there are different types of horror movies that are lighter which are often hybrids such as supernatural horror film franchise Paranormal Activity that is less gruesome than traditional horror films. In America the film was given an R rating and in the UK an 18.

The title, Byline and Quote:

Originally i used the typeface of the the original film franchise. But i felt that this typeface was popular and used in the horror of film poster then and now, similar to Photoshop 'chiller'. So I decided to the Pialatino
Linotype because it's similar to the modern day poster and i wanted to keep that identity strength.

One of the obvious colours to use as text is white because its the binary opposite of my background. However it was still not as clear as it should be.

Positioning:

The low capacity box used to show to bring out the text of the byline and quote. So its easier to read.

The positioning of every element (writing, and pictures) was difficult to figure out because the poster seemed clustered. I deleted the 'From the producers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre' because it wasn't part of the brief and it gave more space for other things.

I decided to position the poster at the top of the page and not the bottom because it then becomes the first thing you see.

However at with the title at the top, meant the image of the bloody hands didn't seem to fit in anywhere. Cropping the hand and having one hand placed behind the face did improve the quality of the poster because it still included all the elements that i wanted.

This was supposed to be my final image but because the lowering of the capacity the hand image started to fade and become orange. So i increased it slightly. I did this not to lose coherence by getting it closer to the colour of the tile.

FINAL IMAGE:

not in the resolution/dpi 72
